CEE 5470 Intermediate Steel Design
This course builds on the knowledge gained in a previous course in structural steel design which covered analysis and design of individual steel elements (e.g. tension members, beams, columns, etc.). This course will cover more advanced topics related to steel design and shift towards thinking of steel structures as systems rather than a collection of elements. In that context, this course includes topics intended to expand your knowledge-base related to the design of steel elements and connections (e.g. members with noncompact and slender cross-sectional elements, different types of column buckling, moment connections), as well as topics examining and analyzing structural systems such as composite beam systems, floor / diaphragm systems, and lateral force resisting systems.
